First you will need a computer with an ethernet or LAN cable, plug this into the router to get started.

Next open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.254/ (or click on this link), if an admin box pops up the default username and password are both ‘admin’.

Now under the heading ‘Home Network’ click wireless then up the top right click ‘configure’ .

Your wireless password is now where it says ‘WEP Encryption Key’ or ‘WPA-PSK Encryption Key’

To fix this we can make your computer log in automatically, this means whenever you start windows or turn your computer on after standby you wont have to click your user icon to log in.

To do this first we type netplwiz in the run dialogue or the start menu and a “user accounts” dialogue box should appear.

Untick the box that says “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer”

Type your password, if you have one, and you’re done!

• Computer not booting or beeps while booting the computer (this may be due to  imcompadible RAM or RAM in the wrong sockets)
• Distorted graphics or lines on the screen (again this may be due to  imcompadible RAM or RAM in the wrong sockets).
• Crashes or bluescreening during normal computer operation.
• Error codes or crashing while installing windows or other operating systems.

To test the RAM in your computer we will use a program called memtest86+. This is an easy program to use and the hardest step in the process is booting into the program (because often you cant boot into your operating system while you have faulty RAM).

Running Memtest with a USB stick is the easiest and quickest method but requires a newer system that can boot from a USB drive and a spare USB drive. To do this follow the steps below

1. Download multiboot USB from here.
2. Run the program and select the pen drive you want to use.
3. Select memtest86+ from the top of the list
4. Press next and memtest86+ will be downloaded, installed and ready to boot from your USB flash drive.
5. Turn your computer off and remove all but one RAM stick – we will test them one at a time
6. with the USB drive still plugged into your system restart and enter your bios.
7. This bit is different for each motherboard but you will need to navigate to where it says boot order or something similar and put USB-HDD at the top. Some motherboards may also need to move the flash drive up in the hard disk boot priority list.
8. There should now be a list of different different things to boot, select memtest86+ from this list. Memtest should now automatically start running.
9. Let the test run for at least six tests. If any errors occur the RAM stick will need to be replaced. Errors will show up in the strip in the middle and the number of tests is shown in the top right.

This quick guide uses iTunes however you can apply the same principles to most media players, or even use windows explorer

How to do this

The simpliest way to do this would be to create a series of playlists. To do this click the plus button at the bottom left of the screen, after renaming your playlist you can now select any music you want and go add to playlist.

A more versatile option is to use genres, the problem with genres these days is that they often very unorganized and vary a lot; you may only like one bands slow songs, there may be miss labels or  many diffent genres spelt differently (for example rock and rock(new)). To combat this we can clear all genres and start again labeling the genres as moods rather than the type of music. Here are the first steps for doings:

1. Select all music (ctrl-a)
2. Right click and select get info
3. Tick the genre box but leave it blank

Now all your music has no genre; you can use the same method selecting songs individually, by album or however you want and add them to a particular genre. Don’t forget you can use Ctrl to select multiple items.

Some suggested moods

The beauty of it is you can create any type of mood you want; the main idea is that it collects together similar songs. Some example moods are relaxed, calm, chillout, happy, excited, dreamy, melancholy. You can also organize your genres based on events; i.e. going out, cleaning, running or a mixture of events and moods

Recently I have done a few jobs removing a rogue virus program. I later learnt this was the “Trademe virus’ and users had lost sensitive data from it.

Thousands of people were affected by this virus. It struck on Thursday and affected people with older computer systems and outdated or no virus protection. The virus was installed by an ad that told users they had a virus and prompted them to install virus protection software.

Trademe has now removed the advert and is doing all they can to find the people who initiated the virus.

The worst problem I had with the virus was after removing it on windows XP broke the users ability to surf the internet. Yet the computer was still connected to the internet.

To remove the Trademe virus and fix your internet connection:

• Download and install malwarebytes anti-malware
• Restart
• While your computer is turning on tap f8 repetitively until the safe mode screen appears
• Select ‘safe mode with networking’
• Open malwarebytes anti-malware
• Update malwarebytes anti-malware
• Run a full scan
• Remove any infections
• Restart
• The virus should be removed now and your internet connectivity may be broken, if it is do the following steps:
• Open up a run prompt
• Type cmd (or just open command prompt)
• Type ‘netsh winsock restart’
• Restart your computer
• Open internet explorer
• Go to tools->internet options->advanced
• Click reset
